Unleashed Driving Pleasure for Hyundai's Power-EV
Fichtenberg (Germany), September 6, 2024 – The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N proves that electric mobility and emotions are not mutually exclusive. With the high-performance crossover SUV, the Korean carmaker focuses on driving pleasure. For the 650 hp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the KW V3 coilover suspension is now available. The electric SUV, which weighs up to 2.3 tons, benefits from the KW multi-valve dampers of the KW coilover suspension in driving dynamics and, above all else, in driving comfort. Even at high cornering speeds, the KW V3 adds calmness and stability to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N high body structure during sporty driving. The KW V3 dampers, with their two-stage multi-valve technology, are manually adjustable for low-speed compression and rebound damping. The KW V3 coilover suspension is also available for the other Ioniq 5 models in both rear- and all-wheel drive. The kit differs in detail in terms of construction, vehicle-specific design, and adjustable lowering. For the 650 hp Ioniq 5 N, the parts certificate covers a lowering of 10 to 35 millimeters. On the other hand, the 170 hp to 325 hp Ioniq 5 models can be lowered between 25 to 50 millimeters on the front axle and 20 to 45 millimeters. The recommended retail price of the KW V3 coilover suspension starts at 2,499 euros. More at www.kwsuspensions.net
The suspension manufacturer KW automotive already has coilovers for almost 50 different electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in its product range. The KW V3 coilover suspensions for Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Hyundai Ioniq 5 are new to the range. The Ioniq 5, available with rear- and all-wheel drive, can be lowered between 25 to 50 millimeters on the front axle and 20 to 45 millimeters on the rear axles. The Ioniq 5 N is offered exclusively with four-wheel drive; the adjustable lowering range on both axles is 10 to 35 millimeters. The shock absorbers and struts also differ in detail.
Two-stage multi-valve technology enables driving dynamics without sacrificing comfort.
The KW V3 coilover suspensions are characterized by the fact that they provide the perfect balance of increased driving dynamics and rolling comfort in combination with maximum lowering in every retrofitted vehicle. In addition to progressive suspension springs, this is achievable by the two-stage compression and rebound valves. These consist of a pre-configured high-speed valve and an adjustable low-speed valve. “The terms high and low speed do not refer to the vehicle speed, but to the vertical acceleration speed of the piston rod when the chassis compresses and rebounds,” explains Florian Johann. “Rapid vertical excitations are caused by unevenness in the road, which is abruptly introduced into the unsprung dimensions.
In contrast, load changes are the slow piston rod movements.” For long bumps or cornering on flat ground, i.e., slow suspension excitation, the KW V3 coilover suspension works in the low-speed range. If this occurs on an uneven road or driven over short, hard bumps, much higher damping speeds occur. The high-speed valves open, and due to the higher oil volume flow, the increase in power is lower than in the low-speed range despite the faster piston speed. That’s why hard shocks are cleanly absorbed, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N compresses harmoniously. The KW V3 valve technology shows this advantage with maximum lowering and enhanced performance under heavy stress. If the preset damper setup is too comfortable or stiff in the delivery state, it’s easy to refine the handling in just a few simple steps. “Our buyers of the KW V3 coilover suspensions are not very afraid of changing the setup by themselves, and we always provide adjustment instructions,” Florian Johann continues. If the handling is now more direct and the crossover body is more closely connected to the road, the cross-section is manually closed in the low-speed rebound valve. If it is opened, the steering becomes more responsive and forgiving, and the ride comfort benefits.
Regardless of the 16 clicks of the adjustable low-speed rebound damping, the KW V3 coilover suspension also offers the option of individually tuning the low-speed compression damping forces. With twelve clicks, the compression of the wheels can be adjusted firmer or softer. Higher compression damping forces provide even more support for the body structure during steering, which also benefits handling. The KW V3 conveys a safe driving experience in all model variants and engines of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the crossover SUV gains significantly in rolling comfort. The recommended retail price of the stainless steel KW V3 coilover suspension for all Hyundai Ioniq 5 starts at 2,499 euros (incl. 19 % VAT). For the Ioniq 5 N, the KW V3 coilover suspension costs 3,267 euros (incl. 19 % VAT). More at www.kwsuspensions.net
